About the PhotographExpired
The rusting skeleton of this old tractor can be found on the track that leads from Keld to the crumbling remains of Crackpot Hall. Stripped of all its functioning parts its days of labour are long over. This part of Upper Swaledale is pock marked with the remnants of expired lead mines and the derelict tractor is a profound symbol of the arduous life of toil and hardship that once existed in this glorious landscape. This image has been produced using a photographic editing technique known as toning. With this technique all saturated colours in the original photograph are replaced using a single selected tone. Blacks, whites and neutral grey’s remain unchanged.
